July Events

July 11 2009

Bob Farrell Braggot release party @ Sidebar noon to 5 pm.

Bob Farrell loved to make braggots, which is half mead and half ale bended together and aged for about 1 year.

bobOur version is made with Willamette Valley honey from Buckwheat and Fireweed wildflowers.  We
brewed the mead inconjuntion with Bob and then he quickly lost a battle with cancer and passed on in the Spring of 08. We finished the project in the fall of o8 and now feel like the braggot has aged enough to serve. I think Bob would be proud. A portion of the proceds goes to the Oregon Brew Crew and a Portion will go to Bob’s family to help pay medical costs.

Available in 22oz bottles for $9.00 and on tap in the Sidebar!

Bastille Day Block Party with Pix.

The Day should be a great time for the whole family.

Oregon Brewers Festival
July 23-26

Lompoc Brewing is sending it’s “hopular” summer IPA, Flower of the Gods (akaFOG), to the 2009
Oregon Brewers Festival. It’s brewed with Simcoe and Tettnager hops, and is light golden in color.

At a very drinkable 6% alcohol and about 62 IBU, FOG is a perfect beer for July. This is the
third year that we have made FOG and it has sold out quickly in thepast. See you at the Festival!

Chowder Challenge Taster

Chowder Challenge Taster

With reputations on the line, a dozen Portland brewpubs and restaurants will vie for the coveted Chowder Cup at the third annual Chowder Challenge.  The blind tasting competition will take place on Saturday, Feb. 28 from Noon to 6 p.m. at the Fifth Quadrant, 3901-B N Williams Ave.  Admission is $10, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit Locks of Love.

New England-style clam chowders (no Manhattan allowed) will compete for the prestigious People’s Choice Chowder Cup, along with prizes in other categories including Most Authentic, Most Flavorful and Best with Beer.  The Morrison Hotel set the bar in 2007, sweeping all categories, and wresting the cup away from the inaugural winner, The New Old Lompoc.

The festivities will also feature a beer garden, live music, a rootbeer garden, Joe the Balloon Guy, and food for purchase.  Minors are welcome at the event.

Samples of chowder from 12 area brewpubs and restaurants will be served in non-labeled, two-ounce cups. After tasting all entries, attendees will vote for their favorite. The chowder receiving the most votes will be named the People’s Choice Winner and will take home the coveted Chowder Cup.  Celebrity judges will determine the winners of the other three categories.

The New Old Lompoc family of pubs will represent the Home Team: the New Old Lompoc, the Hedge House, the Fifth Quadrant, and the Oaks Bottom Pub.
